In the event that campus is closed and you need to continue your instruction remotely, there are some preliminary steps you should complete to be fully prepared. These guidelines cover the ideal technical requirements and environment for working and continuing instruction in a remote capacity.
-
Define a dedicated work space with good lighting, close to your router, with minimal distractions
-
Use a hard-wired ethernet connection instead of WiFi to ensure optimal internet performance
-
Test your internet speed and make sure your computer’s operating system is up to date
-
Be sure to download Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox since some tools require a specific web browser (if you already have these installed, make sure to update to the latest version)
-
Purchase a webcam if you don’t have one on your laptop or desktop computer
(we recommend any logitech webcams) -
Purchase a headset with a built-in microphone to ensure clear audio (we recommend any logitech USB headset), or use headphones with an integrated microphone.
-
For writing equations, drawing, or any other whiteboard simulation you may want to investigate tablet hardware solutions (we recommend a Wacom Tablet)
-
Create a google drive folder with a back-up of all relevant teaching materials that you can access easily from any computer (in case you have a home and work computer)
