This walkthrough demonstrates how to record a slideshow in Panopto.
Additional Note: If you are a Mac user, you may want to read these articles on compatible versions of PowerPoint and Keynote and a potential issue enabling Keynote 5 support.
Step 1. Select Your Capture Source
Prepare to create a Panopto recording as usual. Under Secondary Sources in Windows and under Slides on Macs, choose to record PowerPoint or Keynote.
Step 2. Automatically Record (Windows Only)
Windows users have the options to open the slideshow presentation from Panopto, automatically start recording when the presentation is opened, and automatically begin the slideshow after starting recording.
To do so, click the Open a Presentation button, click Yes to confirm, then select the Start presenting when recording starts checkbox.
Step 3. Open Your Slideshow Presentation
Open your presentation file in either the PowerPoint or the Keynote application.
Step 4. Return to Panopto
Keep the PowerPoint/Keynote application open, and return to Panopto. Click the Record button.
Step 5. Begin Your Presentation
Return to your slideshow and begin your slideshow:
PowerPoint on Windows
- Click Slideshow in the ribbon, then choose to start either From Beginning or From Current Slide.
PowerPoint on Mac
- Click Slide Show in the ribbon, then click View Slide Show.
Keynote
- Click Play in the ribbon, then click Play Slideshow.
Additional Note: Panopto will only record the slides that are presented and will not record transitions, animations, and drawings or notes you create during the slideshow.
Step 6. Stop Recording
When finished presenting, return to Panopto and click the Stop button.
Note: Transitions, Animations, and Drawings
If you want to record a slideshow with transitions, animations, and/or drawings, do not select the checkbox to record PowerPoint or Keynote.
Choose your monitor or desktop as a secondary source, then start from step 3. Remember to minimize Panopto while recording your screen.
